What is long beach naval hospital?

Long Beach Naval Hospital, also known as the Naval Medical Center Long Beach, was a medical facility formerly operated by the United States Navy and located in Long Beach, California. It was commissioned in 1943 as a World War II mobilization hospital and was later used as a general hospital for military personnel and their families.

The hospital had a total capacity of 400 beds and provided a wide range of medical services, including surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and physical therapy. It also housed a dental clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology department.

In addition to its medical services, Long Beach Naval Hospital also served as a training center for medical personnel and provided medical support to nearby naval bases and ships.

The hospital was closed in 1994 due to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, which aimed to reduce the size of the military and consolidate its facilities. The facility was eventually leased to the City of Long Beach and was converted into the Veterans Affairs Long Beach Healthcare System.
